"All Time Low"
It's funny how God has a way of showing us that he truly is in control. Unfortunately, we find ourselves at the point we call an "all time low", when really its exactly where God wants us to be. In humility that is. The bible speaks alot about being humble and humility, in my study of it I found that the low place is where we need to be to be used of God and more importantly to be pleasing in his sight. The world has confused us and tricked us into thinking that we don't have to be humble, that we deserve everything, and are entitled to it all when the truth of the matter is we don't deserve anything but Hell, but by his grace and mercy, and blood we are now joint heirs to the promise and by that covenant can obtain anything we ask in HIS name. In searching for clarity, I looked up humility or humble and this is what I found: Humbleness is a modest opinion or estimate of one's own importance;to humble is to bring down the pride of another or to reduce to a low level in dignity:inadequate;unworthy;low in rank;to destroy the independence, power, or will of. When, I read this, it showed me that I was not humble at all. It showed, that I didn't even understand what humility was, and in my ignorance I operated in pride. And the thing about pride is that it wont let you say or admit that it is pride. If finds people, things, and reasoning to blame for all of its actions. It is vain, empty, and unjustified. Pride is a sneaky, subtle spirit that is not of the Father. So lets get some word on this thing, 1 John 2:16 says, "For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. God is not pleased by those who think more highly of themselves than he ought to think ( Romans 12:3). We see he is not pleased with pride in James 4:6 the scripture says "God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble". I was instantly convicted by that text. The thought of an all loving God, who embraces you as you are, who doesn't care what you've done will forgive you said he will resist you if you had pride not if you killed 100 people or stole from the church....PRIDE. I couldn't stand the thought of being rejected by God because of my own ego. The need to be right all the time, and not being able to say I'm sorry when I was wrong. I couldn't really stomach going to Hell over something so simple yet so hard to let go of. But then again it wasn't hard to let go of, pride was telling me it was too hard to change when it wasn't.
As children we are taught to have self-discipline, dignity, self respect, high self esteem and good character. However, somewhere along the line, conceit and vanity takes place of those values and the morals our parents placed in us become tainted. Growing up, I was told I was beautiful inside out, my mother made sure I was comfortable with who I was because I was not like everyone else. Besides obvious weight issues as a child I was gifted. She knew that I would have a problem in both of these areas and she wanted to boost my self confidence without stroking my ego. And boy did she keep me grounded. (and still does to this day). And that's what God wants to do, he wants you to be confident but to be confident in HIM. Not in our own ability but that through him we can do all things (Philippians 4:13). That we can make our boast in the Lord not be boastful ourselves. There are many good things to look forward to once you have reached a place of humility. Proverbs 22:4 says "By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, honor, and life". Now I could use all of that! Psalms 34:2 speaks about the humble shall hear and be glad, Matthew 23:12 says he that shall humble himself shall be exalted, James 4 :10 says humble yourself in the sight of the Lord and he will lift you up, James 4 :6 says he giveth grace to the humble. I mean you just began to rack up on the favor and riches and honor all by taking the low place. Being kind to one another, loving your neighbor as yourself, remembering where you came from and being grateful for where you are. Seems like we would all choose this path but like lost sheep we have all gone astray. (Isaiah 53:6)
We must understand obedience to God through humility and love, and that being humble doesn't mean that you do good deeds. 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 speaks about love (charity) and though you have all these gifts, speak with tongues of angels and of men, understand all mysteries, have all faith that could move the mountain, bestow all your goods to feed the poor and have not love it profiteth nothing. Love is not puffed up, pride is, love forgives, pride says Ill forgive but I wont forget, love heals all wounds, and pride is vengeful. I challenge you to examine your life as I did in my study, see if you possess any trait linked to pride, disobedience, unteachable attitudes, or just pure hate, and cry out to God to change your ways. Help you to see that we all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) and that there is none righteous, no, not one. (Romans 3:10). But again he is a God of love and requires that his children abide in love. That we submit ourselves and be subject one to another and be clothed with humility (1 Peter 5:5). God promises in his word according to Psalms 9:12 not to forget the cry of the humble. He is looking at our hearts, he is searching for true worshippers, and followers of his Son. Its not to late to repent if we are guilty of such sins and he will restore our soul. Don't get caught up in the wrath of God over pettiness and stubbornness. We can live such stress free lives if we let go of all unforgiveness and bitterness in our hearts. No better time than the present to be at an all time low.
