A JEALOUS GOD
Who is that? What you doing with them? Where you at? What time you coming home? Questions from a curious, sometimes over bearing mate is not always comfortable. The funny thing is, God is very interested in our lives. What we are doing, who we spend our time with, and give our attention to. He wants to be the center of our lives. I mean, he is the reason why we are living, breathing, and have our being.( Acts17:28)
We could look at our relationship with God, parallel to that of the natural. 2 Corinthians 11:2 says," For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused (married) you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ." God cares for us, longs to be intimate and close, with us and communicate with us, because we are his bride. (The church) Ephesians 5:27 talks about how the church should be without, spot, wrinkle, or blemish. Just think of it as we the body of Christ is getting ready for a wedding. Everything has to be in place. The bride readys herself for her husband to be. So while we are here on earth, consider yourself "dating", for lack of better analogy lol. Sooooo, how do you keep a strong relationship with your mate? How do you keep him or her from being jealous? How do you show your love and devotion? Again, God wants our undivided attention. He wants us to put him first. The first commandment is Thou shalt have no other gods before me. (Exodus 20:3) He wants us to love him with all our heart, all our mind, all our soul and all our strength. (Luke 10:27)
In this busy life, we sometime place God on hold. We are pre-occupied with life's daily tasks and agendas. But it is imperative that we stop, and acknowledge God our creator, our lover, provider and friend. He wants us to seek him, to talk with him through prayer, and to search for understanding through his word. It is in this fellowship with God, we find the peace that passeth all understanding, and joy unspeakable. Just like we have dates with our mates, we must MAKE time to really just talk to God and pray for others. God doesn't like to be ignored or disobeyed. We find out what provokes God to jealousy in the old testament. 1 Kings 14:22 says," And Judah did evil in the sight of the Lord, and they provoked him to jealousy, with their sins which they had committed, above all that their fathers had done." We see God doesn't like to be second in our lives. We must commit to doing what he commands and directs us to do out of a godly fear. I cant stress enough how we must put God first!!! Psalms 78:58 says," For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images." Anything that we put before God is an idol. It can be a person, place or thing. (or pet) I know all too well, that you can put things before God, not even trying to. We get so busy in the daily hustle and bustle of life that we sometimes become absent minded to the things of God. We have to have the burden of God on our heart. We have to continue to pray for the lost souls, including our own.
Let's continue to keep God first and not stray away from the faith. Let's not give God a reason to be jealous of our life styles. Let us keep the fire burning in our relationship with God as we ready ourselves for our soon coming King.
